What We Do

  • The Sea Turtle Trust is a UK-based charity that promotes the conservation of Sea Turtles in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Our current focus is on the Leatherback Turtle which is globally threatened and is classified as ‘Critically Endangered’ by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). It faces an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild in the immediate future.

  • We have established a partnership with the main sea turtle conservation group in Gabon (West Africa) - Aventures Sans Frontieres - and are committed to raising funds for their vital work monitoring and protecting one of the world’s most important nesting beaches, at Mayumba and their Education Centre at Pongara.

National Parks & wildlife service, dublin, supports TURTLE PROTECTION IN GABON

Mayumba Beach, GabonDuring winter season 2007-08 the Irish government supported Aventures Sans Frontieres and the Wildlife Conservation Society with a € 15,000 grant to protect the internationally-important Mayumba beach in southern Gabon for Leatherback turtles. This funding was obtained following leatherback publicity activities by the Sea Turtle Trust and on foot of evidence from satellite tracking by University College Cork that turtles feeding in Irish waters migrate south to the West African coast and may nest there.
